Abstract

In this work, an analysis of Pipes with and without fins with phase change material (PCM) based energy storage system. This analysis is simulated with the help of ANSYS Fluent V19. PCMs have many applications in thermal energy storage due to their high ability to latent heat storage. due to this feature, the use of PCMs in the storage of thermal energy from solar sources is widely used. In this work, an attempt has been made to investigate the impact of using fins in the design of structures used in energy storage with the help of PCMs. In two separate designs, PCM materials were placed in equal volumes in the structure. In the first design, the material was without a fin and in the second design, with the help of 4 fins, it was placed in the designed structure with a 90 degree angle. The results showed that the use of fins increased the melting rate of the material. The results also showed that the presence of fins can increase the heat transfer rate in PCM materials.
