Abstract

Background: Time preference or time preference is one of the key and important issues in macroeconomics, so that many economists consider the time preference rate as the most important mental root and factor in creating interest in the economy. This concept is used in various economic topics, and in some cases, due to the use of the same phrase to express different concepts; there is confusion and misunderstanding in this context. With the high rate of time preferences in a society and due to the short-term attitude that exists due to mental defects in less developed countries, the use and exploitation of non-renewable resources such as oil and gas causes the depletion of natural resources faster than expected and the deterioration of the quality of the environment. Aim: The main purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of the time preference rate on the extraction of non-renewable oil and gas resources in Iran. Methodology: In this research, we investigate the rate of time preference as a subjective and unobservable concept through the factors affecting it as well as the factors influencing it on the extraction of non-renewable oil and gas resources in Iran during the years 1396-1346. To achieve this goal, we use the method of analysis of structural equations with the method of maximum linearity (ML) using Amos Graphic software. Conclusions: Based on the main findings of this research, the relationship between the time preference rate and the extraction of non-renewable oil and gas resources in Iran is a meaningful and positive relationship.
