چکیده

In recent years, separation processes in chemical industries have grown significantly. Among these processes is the separation by adsorption process, spacially pressure swing adsorption. Many researches have done in this field, because of the efficiency and effectiveness of this process. Among the applications of this process is the air separation for oxygen and nitrogen production. The purpose of this thesis is study, modeling and simulation of pressure swing adsorption in nitrogen separation from air mixture using carbon molecular sieve as the adsorbent. Here, the efforts have been that the modeling and simulation is done with considering all transport phenomena and involved parameters of the process. For the simulation, two-bed arrangement is considered that six steps passed through them. These steps include: Pressurization, Adsorption, Equilization depressurization, Blow down, Purge, Equilization pressurization. The governing equations and boundary conditions have written for this six-steps cycle. The z-direction of partial differential equations and their time-direction were converted to the ordinary differential equations and algebraic equations using orthogonal collocation method and forward finite difference method, respectively. The Newton's method encoding in MATLAB® softwere was applied to solve obtained system of equations. After simulation, effects of PSA parameters, including adsorption step pressure, adsorption step time duration, feed flow rate, purge to feed ratio, feed temperature, purge step pressure, equilization steps pressure, feed composition, ets have studied on product purity, recovery and productivity. The obtained results were compared with other resources in the literature in order to validation of them.
