چکیده

This study tries to discuss the rhythmic structure in the "Diwan Unshudat Al-matar" composed by Badr Shakir Al-sayyab and analyze the internal and external rhythm in this diwan. The current study includes an introduction as well as three chapters and a conclusion which includes the most important results obtained during the course of this research. In the first chapter, after briefly discussing the life and poems of Badr Shakir Al-Sayyab, poetic rhythm, which includes internal and external rhythm, is briefly touched upon. In the second chapter, we discuss rhythm and rhymes in his diwan for both classic and modern poems. In the third chapter, internal rhythm, especially repetition, which is abundant in this poet's diwan, is analyzed and discussed. The last chapter includes the most important results obtained in the study such as the fact that since Badr Shakir Al-sayyab had discerned the value of rhythm in poems as well as its prominent role in unifying the components of odes had particularly paid attention to rhythm in his Diwan Unshudat Al-matar. Hence, regarding external rhythm, it can clearly be seen rhythm and rhyme possess a special importance and regarding internal rhythm it can be seen that the poet had paid special attention to novel literal components, particularly repetition since this components is seen in his diwan through the repetition of letters, words, phrases, paragraphs as well as language structures. The methodology in this thesis is to assess the poems of this diwan from the point of view of stylistics. However, it does not include all the aspects of stylistics; rather it only deals with the style of the poet regarding the rhythmic structure. When necessary we have used statistical methods, particularly regarding the external rhythm of the poem, which includes poetic rhythm and rhyme.
