Abstract

Nowadays, due to the increase in greenhouse gases and subsequently global warming, the necessity of separating Carbon dioxide as the main greenhouse gas is more important than before. There are different ways to adsorb and capture Carbon dioxide. In this thesis, the separation of Carbon dioxide and Nitrogen binary from flue gas is investigated. In this thesis, the adsorption data of CO2/N2 binary was studied by applying the adsorption data of Zeolite5A@MOF-74 and the Zeolite5A adsorbents in the sources, and the simulation of pressure swing adsorption of CO2/N2 binary system was carried out by gPROMS software and the performance of both adsorbents was compared. Separation of CO2/N2 binary was done at 298k and a feed pressure of 1.5bar. Pressure, temperature, mole fraction, adsorbed concentration, and molar flow rate graphs were plotted for both adsorbents and the performances of the two adsorbents were compared. The purity of Carbon dioxide for the composite adsorbent was 43.33% and the recovery rate was 79.39%, while the purity for the Zeolite5A adsorbent was 65.75% and the recovery rate was 71.14% which indicates better performance of Zeolite5A compared to the composite adsorbent under the same operating conditions. In addition, the effect of different variables on purity and recovery is discussed. It has been shown that by increasing the pressure of the adsorption process, the purity of both adsorbents was decreased and the recovery and productivity were increased also with the increase of the purge flow, purity increased but the recovery was decreased.
