Abstract

Today, radiotherapy with high-energy medical linear accelerators is used in many cases as one of the effective treatment techniques for malignant diseases. The use of these rays has many advantages, such as low skin dose, higher depth dose and less scattered dose. Unfortunately, despite these advantages, these devices produce photon neutron pollution from the interaction of high-energy photons with different materials. This contamination is not taken into account in the design of conventional treatments and this causes the patient to receive additional doses. The generated photon neutrons have a wide range that it can be said that all the neutrons produced are composed of two components. One is the photonuclear reaction and the other, which has a smaller share in the production of these neutrons, is the generation of electrons with real photons. Due to the fact that this neutron pollution increases the patient dose and the treatment room environment, in this study, this pollution has been calculated in 15 points of Saturne 20 treatment room located in Omid Isfahan Hospital in MV18 energy.
