Abstract

The oil and gas industry playes a key role in the economy and development of countries. Hence, enhanced oil recovery projects should be taken into account as well. In this study, core flooding experiments has been carried out to investigate the effect of water alternating carbon dioxide injection process on the recovery factor on two carbonate rock samples. Prior and after to each core flooding test, porosity and permeability of core samples were measured. In addition, Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis was done to identify the mineralogy and physical characteristics of core samples, along with carbonate rock type. The Core flooding experimental Results showed that the recovery factor of core samples 1 and 2 is 10.7% and 24%, respectively. According to the results, the cores porosity decreased. The permeability in calcareous dolomitic carbonate declined, while in the core dolomitic limestone carbonate experienced a significant increase.
