Abstract

Background: Tomatoes and peppers are the most popular fruit vegetables that have received much attention due to their antioxidant properties. One of the main methods of growing tomatoes and peppers is transplanting. Producing good quality seedlings plays a critical role in the successful production of a product. Seedling growers are competing for better quality. A major problem in seedling production is herbaceous growth and excessive elongation. Therefore, in most of today's research, it is tried to keep the plants short and strong before transplanting by applying practical methods. Chemical control of plant growth to reduce body size, using plant growth inhibitors, is a common method that makes the plant denser. Triazoles are known as the most effective and least dangerous growth retardants that growth regulation at low concentrations and non-necrosis is one of the superior properties of these compounds compared to other growth retardants. Aim: The present experiment was performed to investigate the effect of growth retardants of propiconazole, Damozide and Ethephon on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of tomato and pepper seedlings. Methodology: This research was conducted as a completely randomized design with 13 treatments and five replications during 2019 in the private greenhouse of Dashti city (Kaki city) and the laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Bushehr Persian Gulf University. Factors include control treatment, four levels of Propiconazole (0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1 per thousand), four levels of Damozide (1, 2, 3 and 4 gr / l), four levels of Ethephon (1, 2, 3 and 4 gr / L, respectively, were a tomato cultivar (SUN6189) and a bell pepper cultivar (California Wonder). After the end of seedling growth period (45 days after sowing seeds for tomatoes and 60 days after sowing seeds for pepper), vegetative traits including stem diameter, internode spacing, stem and root length, fresh and dry weight of shoots and Root, l
