Abstract
Abstract:
The fear of death and the phobias related to it are among the most
influential things on the human psyche in general, and this fear intensifies in
special times, when a person faces an emergency or a sudden event, when he is
surrounded by mystery. This is what is called in psychological studies the fear of
death or anxiety about it, and societies have witnessed Humanity, in all its aspects,
was previously in this state, as brother, sister, son, mother, and father became a
source of great concern. Since the ominous virus was perceived by the public as
hiding in nowhere and time, sneaking from nothing into existence and killing it,
this hidden view had a clear and continuous impact on our daily lives, as it
destroyed humanity and destroyed many of it. This psychological state had an
echo in literature, as the Lebanese poet Abbas Baydoun wrote about the fear of
death in the time of Covid-19, a collection of poetry under the title “Life Below
Zero,” in which he touched on unique images of the psychological state of panic
that he and the world witnessed in that period, and he included it. In his special
style, he creates aesthetic images that must be studied from both the aesthetic and
psychological aspects. From this standpoint, this study aims to reveal the secrets
of this psychological state and the aesthetic expression of it in the poetry
collection of the poet under consideration for study, and to decipher this painful
subconscious state between his poetic lines. The themes of death, fear of the
unknown, the absurdity of life, and isolation are the most prominent themes in his
poetry collection. We hope to define this terrible feeling for the poet in particular
and man in general through a critical study and analytical reading that draws from
psychology and aesthetics to explain these psychological states and the terrible rift
in the human conscience over time. Dark Corona.
