Abstract

The novel, as a prominent form of prose literature, serves as a powerful tool for authors to convey their concepts and messages to readers. One significant application of novels is to teach life skills to the audience. By presenting diverse narratives and characters, novels can help readers develop crucial competencies such as empathy, problem-solving, decision-making, and creative thinking. Life skills encompass abilities that empower individuals to cope with everyday challenges. These skills are extensively reflected in Arabic literature, particularly in contemporary novels. This research employs a library-based methodology to analyze the content of the novel "Tashari" from the perspective of the ten core life skills. This research employs a descriptive-analytical method, meticulously analyzing the content of the novel "Tashari" using a library-based approach. This study examines the various aspects of life skills that Enam Kajah has addressed in her novel "Tashari". The research findings indicate that skills such as decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal and adaptive communication, stress and emotion management, critical and creative thinking, self-awareness, and empathy are prominently manifested in the lives of the story's characters. Furthermore, this study reveals that the author skillfully depicts the characters' identity and social challenges within the framework of these skills. An examination of the data showed that decision-making and problem-solving skills had the highest frequency among the ten core life skills. The study results emphasize that the novel "Tashari" not only reflects the social and cultural realities of Iraq but can also serve as an effective resource for teaching life skills to readers.
