Abstract

In this research, hollow fiber membrane contactor (PSF) was synthesized by phase separation method. Hydrophobic silica SiO2 nanoparticles were used to modify the surface properties of the membranes. Also, diethylene glycol (DEG) was used as liquid absorbent. The structure and performance of pure and modified membrane contactor with different percentages of nanoparticles were investigated by SEM, gas permeability, contact angle and liquid entry pressure tests. Also, in a gas-liquid membrane contacting system, pure and modified membranes were used to dehumidify the gas flow. They reported a positive trend in the performance of the membranes with the increase in the percentage of nanoparticles. With the increase in the percentage of nanoparticles, the contact angle increased from 72 to 130 degrees and the liquid inlet pressure increased up to 10 bar. Also, in the dehumidification test, the moisture absorption flux finally reported its highest value with the increase in the percentage of nanoparticles in the M-4 membrane.
