Abstract

The Persian Gulf and its hinterland have played a major role in the cultural and civilizational developments of the region and the world throughout history. The brilliant civilizations of Mesopotamia, ancient Iran, and Islam were formed in the areas adjacent to this waterway, which during their heyday and greatness have presented major civilizational and cultural achievements to the world. The special geographical location of the Persian Gulf has made this region one of the important centers of economic exchanges and social interactions between the regions of East Africa, the Indian Ocean basin, and Southeast Asia, and it has always had a special place in the competition between the great powers of the region and the world. The continuous and conflict-provoking presence of foreign powers in the Persian Gulf is one of the clear manifestations of its importance in international relations. With the discovery of oil in the hinterland and continental shelf of the Persian Gulf, this region became the main center of oil production and export in the Middle East, and its economic and political importance was increased. The main issue facing this research is what positions and policies the countries of the Persian Gulf region (especially the governments of Iran and Saudi Arabia) have adopted towards the political developments in Pakistan and its strategic policies during the period from 1947 to 1990. The main finding of the present research, which was written using a descriptive-analytical method, is that the Pakistani government had special and friendly relations with both the governments of Iran and Saudi Arabia during the period before and after the Islamic Revolution of Iran
