Abstract

Although Bushehr began its glorious era with military functions during the reign of Nader Shah Afshar, it later became a safe environment for trade. This issue caused merchant families to migrate from different cities to this port. One of these merchant families was Irani family. This family, which had started its commercial activity from Shiraz during the Zand dynasty, migrated to Bushehr during the Qajar dynasty and gradually grew significantly. To the extent that it is one of the few remaining trading houses from the Qajar and Pahlavi periods in the present time. Accordingly, this research attempts to examine the developments of this merchant family from the point of establishment to the Pahlavi era and through it to address the role of this family in the political and social developments of the Persian Gulf region. This research has been conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and using written sources, documents, and publications. In addition, oral history tools have also been used to collect some of the data. The results of this research show that this trading house has undergone changes in terms of its activities, trading methods, and commercial purposes from its inception to the Pahlavi era, to the extent that the commercial purposes of this family have been upgraded from the regions within the Persian Gulf region and later the Indian Ocean to trade relations with Europe. On the other hand, this family has been present and played a role in these events with the political and social developments of Bushehr and Iran, to the extent that they have not only played a role in establishing economic agencies in Bushehr, but also in political events such as the Constitutional Revolution and in social events such as the construction of schools and national public benefit centers.
