Abstract

Analysis of themes and elements of narration in the collection of “dameat wa iibtisamatun” by Gibran Khalil Gibran The social, humanitarian, political, religious and other issues in Arabic literature are a reflection of the image of the social reality in the Arab countries as in other literatures, and realism is what imposed itself on contemporary stories, until the writer began to pay more attention to these matters and convey the events that he sees with his own eyes as a just cause in need. The writer usually highlights and defends important issues for society because these issues may reflect the bitter reality in which people live. The writer penetrates the depths of people's pain, so this type of story has become beloved by the reader, because he sees in it a great popular resonance and is no longer neglected as before mong these writers who excelled in their stories in this field and dazzled the reader in reading them, is Gibran Khalil Gibran, most of whose stories were about social and political issues, and the storyteller’s common interest with other writers in rejecting injustice, deprivation, and many other political and social issues in the Arab world. This research, according to the descriptive-analytical method, seeks to uncover the issues studied by Gibran Khalil Gibran in his book “A Tear and a Smile.” The writer dealt with the concerns of the poor person and made the characters of his stories cry and laugh. The lives of those he spoke about were between a tear and a smile, which is why he gave this name to his book.
