Abstract

Narratology is a fairly new approach that its main aim is to identify the structural elements and different ways of combining these elements in the narration. This approach seeks to give a detailed analysis of the narrations. Narrative analysis provides the reader with better understand the text. The act of narration is an action that is the product of that narration in which one can find the signs of the narrator, the place and time of the narration. The Arabic novel has undergone enormous changes from its birth to the present day; Authors developed this type of literature by using narrative tools. In the study, the narrative techniques in the novel of "Night Mail" by Hoda Barakat, a contemporary Lebanese novelist, have been investigated. This is a descriptive-analytical study by using library resources. In the study, the methods of narration and how to use these techniques in the Night Post's novel have been investigated. First, narrative theories are introduced, and then the types of narrative tools and their effectiveness are examined. Narrative components such as: plot, time, place, narrator and narrator position, narrator position and description, plot and character relationship are discussed. Narrative components such as: plot, time, location, position of the narrator and the narratee, the position of the narrator and description, the relationship between plot and character has been discussed. The results indicate that we are not face with calendar time. The retrospective anachronism has been used in the narration and due to the descriptions, emotions and explanation of the narrator's inner thoughts, the speed of the narration has slowed down and the narration time of the novel has expanded. Continuity of narrative using omission, abstract and descriptive delay shows the importance of events. The novel of "Night Mail" is one of the adventure-oriented novels.
