The relationship of contemporary poetry to the multiplicity of discourse is that contemporary poetry deals with different and diverse topics and issues, and uses diverse poetic styles and forms as well. The relationship of social semiotics to contemporary poetry is that poets use social symbols to express social and cultural reality. In contemporary poetry, the poet uses various social symbols and icons to show changes and transformations in society, as well as to highlight competition and conflicts between different groups and classes. What this thesis seeks is to study the discourse in the poetry of the contemporary Emirati poet Mansoor Jassim Al Shamsi in the light of social semiotics according to the descriptive-analytical approach. In this thesis, we studied and analyzed six types of discourse, which are: Artistic-aesthetic discourse, symbolic discourse, media discourse, critical discourse, visual discourse, and cinematic discourse. One of the most important results that we have reached through this thesis is that Mansoor Jassim Al Shamsi benefited from many types of discourse in his poetic work, as the reader notices that a group of artistic uses and techniques related to the types of discourse were available in Al Shamsi’s poetry, and among the other results reached by the research The poet did not neglect the recipient’s contribution to the completion of his poetic project and the completion of the artistic spaces and gaps that he created within the text, out of his belief in the role of the reader in the process of artistic creativity.
