Abstract

Makran subduction zone is one of the unique feature due to its geology, geodynamics and seismicity behavior. In our comparative study we analysis the Makran Subduction Zone in the prospective of its structure, seismicity, and stress behavior. In this study, we compare the eastern and western segments of Makran through parameters such as b-value, fractal dimension, D/b-value, and coupling and locking behavior, as well as differences in the subducting slab angle on both sides, we have investigated the b-value and stress concentration compared to previous work and found that the b-value of the eastern side of Makran is 1.13, which is lower than that of the western side (1.26).This infers a higher stress concentration in the eastern segment, consistent with previous studies. Furthermore, we differentiate between the couplings and locking behavior of the eastern and western sides according to previous studies about Makran Subduction Zone geodynamics, we investigate that due to locking, the western side exhibits creeping behavior, while due to coupling, the eastern side of Makran shows compressional stress accumulation. According to seismicity we also find that eastern side of Makran have large historical event with compressional behavior of stress. While western part shows an absence or less quantity of historical event with shear compressional behavior of stress.
