Abstract

Background &Aim: The progress of any society is rooted in the educational system that governs that society. University is one of the essential pillars of higher education. Inappropriate behavior in the academic environment is a problem that undermines the safety and health of this environment and affects the university's academic performance. Academic incivility is a growing phenomenon in the academic education system. The purpose of this study was to clarify the status of Persian Gulf University in terms of academic incivility for students and professors. This study uses a strategic approach to present an appropriate organizational change model for the problem. Methodology: The present study is quantitative research that aims to describe and explain the problem of academic incivility. Two questionnaires were used to identify students' and teachers' avoidance behaviors in the university setting for data collecting. The statistical population of this study is the students of Persian Gulf University, and 368 persons were selected as a sample in this study. The data collected were analyzed by SPSS software. Statistical analysis was performed in two levels, descriptive and inferential analysis. Conclusions: Statistical results show that the Persian Gulf University status in two dimensions of academic convergence of students and professors, although not entirely desirable, does not report the undesirable situation. According to the strategic approach of this study, using the Cotter (1995) change model, a proposed change model with a strategic approach was developed and presented with strategies. This research is based on how this phenomenon is managed at the organizational level.
