Abstract

This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the smart tourism field from 2000 to 2025 to identify research trends, conceptual structures, and thematic developments. The findings reveal a significant and steady growth in this area, with an annual growth rate of 26.9% and the production of over 2,500 scientific documents, reflecting the increasing global attention to innovative technologies in tourism. The predominance of scientific articles and conference papers confirms the technological and interdisciplinary nature of this field. China, with a remarkable lead in publication volume, plays a key role in advancing smart tourism knowledge, while countries such as Indonesia, Spain, and India are also actively contributing. Keyword analysis and thematic clustering indicate a shift in research focus from technological infrastructures toward more advanced topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, tourist experience, and smart destination management. The notable surge in publications following the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the impact of global developments on the rapid expansion of tourism technologies. The results of this study provide a coherent and multidimensional framework for better understanding and future planning in smart tourism, laying the groundwork for more interdisciplinary and applied research in the field.
