The aim of this paper is presenting the gap between subdirectly irreducible and irreducible commutative semigroups by employing a new approach on investigating subdirectly irreducible commutative semigroups. To provide our target we first present a structural characterization of subdirectly irreducible commutative semigroups using a new approach and then we identify the gap between irreducible and subdirectly irreducible commutative semigroups.
