Abstract

Nowadays the culture of bivalved shellfish has increased but the consumption it has been limited both by high levels of heavy metals and toxic algae [1]. The razor clams (Solen rosemaculatus) or locally known as ‘Melalis’ were studied for their heavy metals contents in soft tissues. Sediment samples were also tested for their metal contents. Wild clams were collected from five different locations in costal water of Boushehr state. Concentrations of Fe, Zn, Cu, Cd were determined by using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (FAAS). The average concentrations of the heavy metals in sediment analyzed exhibited the following increasing order: Cd
