Abstract

It􀀁has􀀁been􀀁extensively􀀁reported􀀁that􀀁the􀀁HTL􀀁process􀀁can􀀁produce􀀁biofuel􀀁from􀀁 biomass,􀀁such􀀁as􀀁algae,􀀁bio-waste􀀁(including􀀁food,􀀁manure,􀀁and􀀁sewage􀀁sludge),􀀁and􀀁 wood􀀁[1].􀀁Among􀀁all􀀁kinds􀀁of􀀁biomass,􀀁algae􀀁are􀀁promising􀀁resources􀀁owing􀀁to􀀁its􀀁 exceptional􀀁photosynthetic􀀁efficiency,􀀁abundant􀀁lipid􀀁content,􀀁and􀀁remarkable􀀁areaspecific 􀀁yields.􀀁The􀀁extensive􀀁utilization􀀁of􀀁algae-based􀀁energy􀀁holds􀀁the􀀁potential􀀁to􀀁 address􀀁the􀀁issue􀀁of􀀁global􀀁warming􀀁[2].􀀁The􀀁HTL􀀁product􀀁yields􀀁are􀀁significantly􀀁 impacted􀀁by􀀁the􀀁biochemical􀀁composition􀀁of􀀁the􀀁algal􀀁feedstock􀀁[3].􀀁Algae􀀁with􀀁 high􀀁lipid􀀁content􀀁mostly􀀁use􀀁lipids􀀁to􀀁produce􀀁biocrude,􀀁whereas􀀁algae􀀁with􀀁high􀀁protein 􀀁content􀀁utilize􀀁proteins􀀁more􀀁efficiently􀀁[4].􀀁Biller􀀁and􀀁Rose􀀁[5]􀀁and􀀁Teri􀀁et􀀁al.􀀁[6]􀀁 recognized􀀁that􀀁the􀀁conversion􀀁of􀀁carbohydrates􀀁is􀀁slower􀀁compared􀀁with􀀁lipids􀀁and􀀁 proteins
