Abstract
The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of emotion-focused therapy on self-esteem
and post-traumatic growth in girls with experiences of love failure, using a semi-experimental pretest-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study included
female students ng at Shiraz University in the year 2024 who had experienced love failure, and the
sample members were also selected purposefully. 30 out of 53 students who scored above the cutoff
point in the love trauma symptoms questionnaire were randomly selected and placed into two groups
of 15, experimental and control, using random assignment. The research tools included the Self-Worth
Questionnaire (Doosti and Hosseini Nia, 2020) and the Post-Trauma Growth Questionnaire (Tedeschi
and Calhoun, 1996). The members of the experimental group received emotion-focused group therapy
in 12 two-hour sessions on a weekly basis, while the control group did not receive any treatment. Pretests and post-tests were conducted for both groups before and after the intervention. Univariate and
multivariate analysis of covariance was used to analyze the data. The results of the study indicated
that emotion-focused therapy led to a significant increase in self-esteem and post-traumatic growth in
girls with experience of love failure (p < 0.05). Based on this, it can be concluded that emotionfocused therapy, combined with the increase of emotional awareness along with prediction
mechanisms, control, and effective coping strategies, leads to an increase in self-esteem and posttraumatic growth.
