Abstract

Introduction: Seaweeds are one of the important marine living resources in the world. Seaweeds have caused an emerging interest in the biomedical area. Marine creatures are a rich source of biologically active metabolites with a novel structure. Primary and secondary metabolites produced by these organisms can be considered as active ingredients in the pharmaceutical industry. The aim of the current study was to analyze and identify the chemical composition of Sargasum algae obtained from the coasts of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr province. Methods: After collecting of the Sargasum alga, it had washed, dried and powdered. Isolation and identification of chemical compounds were evaluated by gas chromatography – mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). Results: The results indicated the presence of a different structure in the Sargasum alga extract, which included several compounds such as phenolic, quinoline, isoquinoline, indole, pirazole, oxadiazole, Carotenoids, and Pyrrolic compounds. Conclusion: It can be demonstrated, the Persian Gulf Sargasum alga, due to its bioactive compounds such as antioxidant activities can be used in the prevention and treatment of many diseases, including blood pressure, chronic inflammation, cardiovascular disorders, metastasis and angiogenesis of the cancer. The presence of phytoconstituents, such as phenols, flavonoids and tannin seaweeds indicates the option of antioxidant activity and this activity will help in preventing a number of diseases through free-radical scavenging activity. Secondary metabolites are phenolics that play a role in the maintenance of the human body. It also has anti-bacterial, antiviral, anti-parasitic, anti-fungal, and inhibition of tumor effects. Due to the presence of zyllitol compound, a natural calcium alcohol, it can be used as a diabetic sweetener. Due to the increase of the rate of some imperative diseases algae can be used as drugs and supplements. Good nutrition and as a good alternative to drugs with a source of
