An efficient method has been described employing FeSO47H2O as a catalyst for the synthesis of amides from methylarenes and amines (hydrochloride salts) with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as an external oxidant.Primary, secondary, and tertiary amides were synthesized in moderate to good yields. A variety of amines and methylarenes were used to investigate the scope of this process.
