Background: Indirect intervention methods are very effective in research projects,
especially in studies on children, and yield satisfactory results. That is why
attachment-focused parenting intervention was used in this study to improve parent-
child relationships.
Purpose: The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of
attachment-focused parenting intervention on the quality of parent-child
relationships and aggression in 3- to 6-year-old children.
Methodology: This research had a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The
study population consisted of all mothers of 3- to 6-year-old children in Bushehr
City, Iran. Thirty of these women were selected using convenience sampling and
randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups. To analyze the data, the
results were extracted, the descriptive analysis of the data was performed, and the
mean and standard deviation were calculated first. One-way ANCOVA and
MANOVA were then used. .
Findings: The attachment-focused parenting intervention significantly reduced
overall aggression and its components (physical and relational aggression) in 3- to
6-year-old children. However, it had no significant impact on verbal and impulsive
aggression. In addition, while the intervention improved the quality of parent-child
relationships and influenced the components of conflict and dependence, it had no
significant impact on the dimension of intimacy between the parents and children.
Conclusion: The results indicate that providing mothers of 3- to 6-year-old children
with attachment-focused parenting intervention can reduce aggressiveness in
children and enhance the quality of parent-child relationships.
