Given the importance of novel educational methods in enhancing academic motivation, executive functions, creative thinking, and scientific literacy, the combination of creative play and music therapy can be an effective approach in educating children. Music therapy is professionally and purposefully used as the application of music and its elements in educational, therapeutic, and daily life settings. Creative play allows children to engage their imagination while exploring and interacting with the world around them. The main objective of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of combining creative play and music therapy on academic motivation, executive functions, creative thinking, and science literacy in elementary school children. The current study was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test-post-test and follow-up design with an unequal control group. The statistical population of this research consisted of all male sixth-grade elementary students in Saqqez city in the academic year 1403-1404. Three school classes were selected as the main sample using random sampling. Then, these three classes were randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. The experimental groups received creative play and a combination of creative play-music therapy for ten sessions, while the control group received no intervention during this period. In the present study, the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking Form B, a researcher-made science literacy test, the simple Stroop software test for selective attention, and the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test software for cognitive flexibility were used.
