Background: Many compounds in microalgae have several properties and are used for various purposes. In this study, the oxidative effect, length of light period and light intensity on the amount of biological compounds and antioxidant properties of Parachlorella sp microalgae native to the Persian Gulf were investigated.
Aim: Paracchlorella microalgae are exposed to oxidative stress (H2O2) and light treatment to increase their antioxidant properties and also secrete more useful biological compounds and use them in various purposes such as food, aquaculture and medicine
Methodology: This study was performed in algae culture laboratory in Persian Gulf Research Institute. 12 treatments were tested with three replications each. The light period and light intensity in the treatments were 12-12 and 8-16, respectively, light intensity of 5000 and 11000 and hydrogen peroxide content of 0 , 2 and 4 mM, and finally growth rate, biomass, fatty acid and antioxidant properties were investigated. Conclusions: Data analysis showed that the interaction of different factors did not have a significant effect on the growth of parachlorine microalgae (P ≤ 0.05). The highest growth is related to treatment 8 with light period of 16-18, light intensity 11000 and hydrogen peroxide content of 2 mM. Hydrogen peroxide had a significant effect on the dry weight of microalgae (P≤0.05) The effect of hydrogen peroxide factor and light intensity was significant and the highest dry weight was related to treatment 8. The amount of hydrogen peroxide has a significant effect on the total phenol content. Also, the interaction of hydrogen peroxide and light intensity on the total phenol content was significantly different (P ≤ 0.05). The highest content of total phenol was 6 treatment with 12-12 light period, 5000 light intensity and 4 mM hydrogen peroxide. Also, the highest total antioxidant activity (total antioxidant) was related to 12 treatment with 16-18 light period 5000 light intensity. And hydrog
