By foundation of Sasanian empire by Ardashir I and his successors, the Persian Gulf became southern part of the Sassanids boundaries. Sasanians called the sea as “Our Sea” and in the early Islamic sources, this part of the southern waters were known as “Bahr al-Fars” or Persian Gulf. The main problem of this research is to review and clarify the concept of “Persian Sea” within the Sasanian and early Islamic period. The research method is descriptive-analytic and the research data have been collected from first hand sources, recent research, and archeological findings. The research main question is what is the origin of the concept “Persian Sea”? It is worth noting that within this times, Persian Sea strength to the Indian ocean, so the research findings show that nomenclature of the so-called “Bahr al-Fars” in the primary Islamic era has a different geographical definition from “Persian Gulf”. In fact the name of “Persian Sea” is a Sasanian imperialism legacy that reflected in the Islamic sources, while is absent in the Sasanian sources itself.
