The biosorption of the cupper ion by Sargassum as brown alga were studied with respect to the contact time, temperature, pH, initial biomass dosage and initial concentration of Cu(II). The maximum of biosorption was acquired in the first 30 minutes, the most favorable temperature was 550C and optimum pH for biosorption was found 6. The kinetic of biosorption was fitted in the pseudo-second order model. The isotherm of biosorption wase studied by Freundlich, Langmuir and Temkin models. The Freundlich isotherm model was the most favorable for obtaining the equilibrium data. The thermodynamic biosorption parameters such as Ea, ?H‡, ?S‡ and ?G‡ were calculated. Finally, by using Response Surface Methodology from Minitab software, the optimum experimental conditions were obtained. Furthermore, the effects of calcium and magnesium on the biosorption were studied.
