Abstract

Background: Lead is known as a dangerous heavy metal with long-term toxic effects. One of the methods for removing heavy metals is the biosorption method, which in case of magnetic properties in adsorbent and the use of natural resources such as algae, can be an easy, low cost and high-efficiency design. Objective: Investigation of chaetmorpha algae extract ability to prepare a magnetic adsorbent for removing lead metal ion from aqueous sources Methodology: Magnetic nanocomposite was characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, VSM and FTIR. Biosorption of lead (II) ions was investigated according to pH, metal concentration, temperature, adsorbent value and contact time for nanocellulose-Fe3O4. DFT based on the Gaussian software was used to study the adsorption characteristics at the molecular level. Findings: The maximum of absorption was at pH 5.2, the metal concentration of 7 mg/L ,45°C, 0.0180 g/L of adsorbent dosage and contact time of 120 minutes. The bauda were selected as the best isotherm model and pseudo fractional first-order was selected as the best kinetic model. In the theoretical part, the interaction between lead ions and functional groups in the cell wall of chaetmorpha algae at the molecular level was investigated by DFT calculations and it was shown that the interaction was physical. Conclusion: In this study, it was found that nanocellulose derived from chaetmorpha algae has the ability to absorb lead, which was well observed by simulation software and computational chemistry, spontaneous interaction and physical absorption of polymer extracted with metal ion
