A new efficient, one-pot method to get thiobenzamide compounds
from benzyl halides, amines, and Na2S2O3 is reported. A benzylic
halide is treated with Na2S2O3 in DMSO until the halide is completely
consumed. Next, the reaction is continued by adding a primary or
secondary amine to the reaction mixture to synthesize thiobenzamides
simply. This procedure does not require a special catalyst or
any additive to afford thiobenzamides in good to excellent yields.
