Background: In this research, ZnO nanocomposites were synthesized based on polymer.
Purpose: The main purpose of this research is to find a suitable method for the synthesis of ZnO nanocomposites based on cellulose carbamate and to investigate their photocatalytic activity in the removal of methylene blue dye. Also, for comparison, the desired nanocomposite was synthesized with cellulose and its properties and efficiency in removing methylene blue dye were investigated.
Methodology: ZnO nanocomposites were synthesized by hydrothermal precipitation method. The synthesized nanocomposites were identified by UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD and SEM analyses. These nanoparticles had hexagonal wurtzite structure and rod, spherical and porous morphology.
Findings: Methylene blue dye was removed by ZnO nanocomposites under sunlight, green and blue visible light and UV lamp. ZnO-A and ZnO-B nanocomposites had good catalytic activity against sunlight and green and blue visible light.
