Abstract

Background: In the modern era, observing the increase in girl-boy friendships and considering the short-term emotional relationships of young people, the question was raised whether commitment plays a role in these relationships. It was settled. Objective: The main purpose of this study is to examine the dimensions of commitment from the perspective of single youth, young people who have experienced an emotional relationship with the opposite sex and also to examine the causal conditions and consequences of commitment in romantic relationships. Methodology: The research method was used qualitatively and analytically to examine the dimensions of commitment in young people. In this study, 19 young people with a history of emotional relationships in Abadan were selected based on purposive sampling. Data collection tool was semi-structured in-depth interview and data analysis was performed with grounded theory approach. The interviews were first entered into Max QDA software and then coded. Findings: The findings of the research were coded based on the selected code of commitment dimensions including three central codes which include (personal commitment, moral commitment and structural commitment). Findings show that personal commitment has three components of partner attractiveness, relationship attractiveness and relationship identity and structural commitment has two components of moral loyalty to the relationship and sense of religion to a partner and structural commitment that It means staying in relation to coercion and pressure. It was not discussed in single youth and the participants discussed compromise, understanding and hope for living together. Also, according to the results of the research and the statements of the participants, the ratio of personal commitment was more colorful compared to moral and structural commitment in young people and they paid more attention to this dimension of commitment.
