Abstract

Aggregation of colloids in decane in the presence of AOT surfactant was investigated using three different methods: First of all electrophoretic mobility measurements were performed to study the particle charging behavior. As a next step particle aggregation kinetics were measured by dynamic light scattering, determining the particle stability ratio for different suspensions. AFM-based colloidal probe technique was used to obtain direct force measurements between silica particles in order to obtain the relevant Hamaker constant, necessary for evaluating the van der Waals attraction.
