Vaginismus is an involuntary contraction of the muscles of the outer third of the vagina that prevents the penetration of the penis and intercourse, and is one of the most common sexual disorders known among women. Continuation of this disorder leads to marital problems, unconsummated marriage, depression, feelings of isolation, dissatisfaction and reduced quality of marital relationships during cohabitation. Hypnotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for this disorder. This study aimed to investigate the effect of hypnotherapy on the quality of marital relationships and reduce symptoms in women with vaginismus. The statistical population of the present study includes all women with vaginismus who referred to clinics, health centers and obstetrics and gynecology offices in Bushehr between October 2019 and August 2020. Sampling was done by the convenience method and finally 20 women who met the criteria for vaginismus and their hypnosis test were successful were selected. 10 people in the control group and 10 people in the experimental group were randomly selected. After completing the pre-test questionnaires by the subjects of both groups, 7 sessions of hypnotherapy were performed for the experimental group and the post-test was performed for both groups. To analyze the results was used the multivariate analysis of covariance by SPSS-25 software. The results showed that hypnotherapy has a significant effect on reducing the symptoms of vaginismus in women. Hypnotherapy also has a significant effect on increasing the quality of marital relationships. As a result, this treatment can be used to improve the symptoms of vaginismus in women and increase the quality of marital relationships.
