Abstract

Background: One of the most difficult and common experiences of loss and grief can be seen in the failure of romantic relationships. Romantic relationships are common in youth and nearly 65% of young people experience them. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of emotional therapy on self-worth, psychological security, and post-traumatic growth in female students who experienced emotional failure. Methodology: The current sample consisted of thirty female students studying at Shiraz University in the academic year of 1402, who were between the ages of 18 and 35, and who had experienced emotional failure for a maximum of six months. They had opposite sex partners. and the emotional relationship has lasted 6 months in the shortest time. The sample group was selected based on the cut-off score in the love shock syndrome questionnaire, which was completed for all volunteers participating in the research, and the assignment method in two experimental and control groups was simple random method. After assigning 15 people in the experimental group, they received group-based emotional therapy in 12 two-hour sessions once a week, but the control group did not receive model or treatment as a waiting list. Tedeschi and Calhoun's post-traumatic growth questionnaire, Dosti's and Hosseininia's self-worth questionnaire, and Maslow's psychological security questionnaire were administered to two groups after completing the treatment. Findings: The results of univariate (ANCOVA) and multivariate (MANCOVA) analysis of covariance showed that emotion-oriented therapy significantly increases the feeling of self-worth, psychological security, and post-traumatic growth in students who have experienced emotional failure. Conclusion: Emotional therapy helps to improve self-esteem, psychological security, and post-traumatic growth by increasing emotional recognition along with predictive mechanisms, control, and effective coping strategies.
