Abstract

Background: Tomato is considered as one of the important and commercial products in Bushehr province, which has cultivars with different functional and quantitative and qualitative characteristics. The final product production is the result of genetic and environmental characteristics. Meanwhile, the presence of tomato leaf miner (Tuta absoluta) causes irreparable damage to the amount of final production, and the resistance of different cultivars cultivated in Bushehr province to this pest is less studied. Aim: Therefore, the present research was conducted to find the best commercial tomato variety in terms of different quantitative, qualitative characteristics and resistance to tomato leaf miner (Tuta absoluta). Methodology: This research was done as two separate experiments with 5 treatments including Commodore, Badroud, Brenta, Brivio and 8320 tomato varieties. In the first experiment, cultivation of different cultivars was done in the form of a randomized complete block design in 3 replications. In the second experiment, in order to produce the Tuta absoluta population was raised one generation of the pest on each variety. Infected leaves were studied under microscope. The duration of growth and development of males, females, individuals who died before reaching puberty, and the daily reproduction of females were analysis based and growth parameters were calculated on the age and life stage-specific bisexual life table theory of Chi and Liu (1985) and the method described by Chi (1988). Results: The results of analysis of variance showed that between different tomato cultivars were significantly different in shoot fresh weight, stem diameter, leaf area, number of clusters, plant yield, number of days to flowering, carotenoids, potassium and fruit fresh weight (P≤0.01) and the amount of chlorophyll a, b and total chlorophyll, phosphorus, calcium, the number of glandular trichomes, fruit diameter and TSS (P≤0.05), but no statistical difference was observed between
