In the first part of this thesis, diaryl disulfide derivatives are efficiently synthesized by reaction of calcium carbide, carbon disulfide and aryl halides in DMSO in the presence of copper iodide at 120 oC . In the second part, a novel CuI-catalyzed route to ɑ-thioaryl-1,3-dicarbonyls from the reaction of aryl halides, cyclic ß-dicarbonyl, KOH, calcium carbide and carbon disulfide in DMSO at 120 oC is introduced.
