4-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyridinium acetate as an ionic compound has been introduced as a catalyst for the preparation of 3-methyl-4-arylmethylene-isoxazol-5(4H)-ones from ethyl acetoacetate, hydroxylamine and aromatic aldehydes under solvent-free conditions.
