Indenopyrroles are an important class of nitrogen-containing heterocycles. They have attracted significant attention of organic chemists because of biological properties and considerable activity against cancer, diabet and viral infections. In this thesis a simple and efficient procedure for the synthesis of new indenopyrrole derivatives has been reported from the addition reaction of 2-hydroxy-2-(3-oxobut-1-en-2-yl)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione with aromatic amines in H2O at room temperature (Scheme 1).
