چکیده

The phenomenon of nostalgia has existed since the emergence of the first poems until today, and its moving process varies according to the circumstances in every single country. Nostalgia brings with itself painful consequences and reflections in the hearts of the poets in a way that each poet interprets it according to their own visions and special circumstances. “Adn?n Al-s?iq”, the Iraqi poet who was not able to endure the difficulties in his country, is among the poets who left their homelands and chosen to reside in another country. Despair and nostalgia are clearly apparent in his poems, so far that he exaggeratedly shows an attachment and intense enthusiasm for his homeland. Thus, the present study aims at examining different types of nostalgia in Al-s?iq’s poems taking a descriptive-analytic approach and relying on a statistical method. The current investigation examines the phenomenon of nostalgia and expatriation, and his writing style of his poems after an overview of the poet’s life, and the political – social issues that affected his life. The significance of this research becomes evident by the audience attaining the extent of the brutal cruelty of the Baathist regime of Iraq towards intellectuals, especially Iraqi poets and writers. The findings of the study show that despite being away from his homeland, the poet is still attached to and fond of his family and friends, Iraq's natural places to such a great extent that he writes, enthusiastically, poems about these places; the joys and pleasures outside his homeland did not make him forget his homeland even for a moment; rather, in a foreign country, he always speaks of the hardship of life and moans with the remembrance of his homeland. The poet uses a simple and fluent style to express these feelings, and homesickness prevents him from verbiage and rhetoric, and from using complex expressions; therefore, his poetry seems fluent and expressive.
