Contemporary Arabic poets do not content themselves to the visual aspects of the phenomena that they see in the nature and around themselves but in addition to that, they create important subjects from these natural phenomena for helping them in creating the technical and poetic image of their literary works. Contemporary Iraqi poet, ‘Abd al- Wahh?b al-Bay?t? had a special experience in this field. So in the poems of al-Bay?t?, the natural phenomena, especially the rain, has a special place and various meanings. Accordingly, in order to modernize and enrich poetic images, the aforementioned poet used the rain word. The rain is one of the expressive tools that this poet focused on due to its great usage in a considerable amount of his poems. considering that the rain has an important role in in the poems of al-Bay?t?, this study which is based on an analytical-statistical approach, examines and determines its multiple positive and negative significances. The rain, in Bay?t?'s poems, contains various positive and negative significances; therefore, in this study the most important positive symbols, i.e. verdure, revolution, life, and luminosity, and negative significances, i.e. loneliness, sorrow, desolateness, and death are taken into account. The poet used this word 119 times that 58 instances of them contain positive sense and 49 instances of them contain negative sense and 12 instances is used with actual sense. This number of rain's significances in Bay?t?'s poems is derived from the poet’s viewpoint toward the life and death, and the despair and hope which are institutionalized simultaneously in the poet's soul.
