Metaphor, whether as a decorative element or as a cognitive process, has been in the focus of researchers' attention for a long time. According to the findings of cognitive linguistics, due to being corporeal and experiencing existence through this body, humans create and store fundamental conceptual constructions called image schemas in their minds, so that when thinking about abstract matters, by transferring these concrete constructions to language facilitate and complete the perception process. Saadi Yusuf and Ahmad Shamlou have conceptualized many abstract concepts in their poems with the help of schemata. This thesis intends to To rely on the comparative literature research method of the American approach and in a descriptive-analytical manner, while examining and analyzing the schemata in the poems of these two poets, to explain the way of thinking and also the foundations of their understanding of the world around them.
The findings of the research indicate that among the most important directional metaphors are up-down direction, inventive direction of directionlessness, back-forward directions. Up-down direction is used to conceptualize favorable-unfavorable conditions and backward-forward direction is used to conceptualize the abstract duality of Khafkan-Azadi. Among the directions mentioned, the innovative direction of directionlessness was created in opposition to the usual directions and in escaping from the unsatisfactory reality of the life time of these two poets and shows the desirable and worthy world of human life in an ideal direction and unlike the existing directions; For this reason, the direction of directionlessness can be imagined as the direction of Utopia.
