Abstract

In this research, a DC microgrid consisting of PV panels and storage devices evolving at different time scales is considered for the sake of this integration, and controllers are designed for each element. A hierarchical control strategy is proposed so as to absorb the maximum available renewable power and at the same time keep the DC grid voltage constant according to the changes caused by power generation and consumption. The proposed reference control algorithm divides the power into fast and slow components to be tracked by supercapacitor and battery, respectively. As a result, the storage devices keep the DC voltage at the desired value and ensure the balance between power generation and consumption. Moreover, in order to guarantee a suitable lifetime for the battery, the control strategy respects the physical constraints. The detailed simulation results confirm our claims and show the good behavior of each element and the overall interconnected system. Compared to other results in the literature, this research focused on proposing easy-toimplement control algorithms, based on the physical properties of network elements, in order to obtain the desired closed-loop dynamics and prove formal stability.
