The global population is increasing and because of this, the today's world may experience great fresh water scarcity. Furthermore, our Country water resources are limited and, hence, water and wastewater treatment methods are the only alternatives for getting fresh water in the coming decades. Therefore, there is a great need for the development of a suitable, inexpensive and rapid wastewater treatment techniques and reuse or conservation methods in the present century. Thus, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) is considered as a most efficient method also the best one for purifying organic compounds which are resistant to conventional physical and chemical processes. Among the advanced oxidation processes, Fenton processes have been studied widely in recent years and are considered for organic wastewaters treatment. Due to the demand for high efficiency wastewater treatment, a summary of the study status of Fenton and Fenton-like processes is necessary to develop a novel and high efficiency organic wastewater treatment method. In this study, some important Fenton-like processes such as photo- Fenton, electro- Fenton, sono -Fenton and heterogeneous Fenton are presented. Finally, recent studies in this field are discussed and examined.
