Abstract

Due to the technological advances, the use of control charts is more important than ever. The variable parameters (VP) control charts are based on the varying all ¯ Xchart parameters, sample size n, sampling interval h and the k used to determine the action limits. In this paper, we introduce the synthetic-VP ¯ Xchart for monitoring changes in the process mean especially moderate and small shifts. The optimal charting parameters of the proposed chart are obtained using the Markov chain approach. An example is also presented to show the performance of the proposed chart against other charts.
