Abstract

Background and Objective: Considering the increasing population and the constancy of natural resources, the concept of sustainable development is becoming increasingly important (Mensah, 2019). As humanity faced numerous crises such as poverty and hunger, social and economic inequalities, and environmental damage, the United Nations presented the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as measures to address these crises. These goals have so far been a good guide to achieving sustainable development and improving living conditions. In today's era, evaluating the welfare of societies has become one of the most fundamental concerns for researchers, accomplished through global welfare ranking systems. These systems aim to compare countries' performance in various social, economic, and environmental fields. The main objective of this study is to examine the correlation between the ranking of countries in terms of the number of scientific publications related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the ranking of the studied countries in global ranking systems such as the Human Development Index, Legatum Prosperity Index, Social Progress Index, and Sustainable Development Index. Furthermore, the study compares the status of countries both in terms of income levels and geographical regions. Finally, the study evaluates the status and position of Iran in terms of scientific productions related to the Sustainable Development Goals and welfare levels. Methodology: This research is applied in nature, aiming to address practical issues, and it has been conducted with a scientometric approach. In terms of data collection, it is categorized as a descriptive study. Among the various methods used in descriptive research, the correlation research method has been employed in this study. The statistical population of this research includes all countries that have published scientific productions related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in the Scopus database. The
