Abstract

Background: The present study was in the field of fabricating nanofibrous membranes from nanofibers produced by rotary jet spinning method for wastewater treatment. Aim: Fabrication and evaluation of PAN/TiO2 nanofibrous membrane for wastewater treatment in different laboratory conditions. Methodology: In this research, Taguchi method has been used to design the experiment and rotary jet spinning method has been used to produce nanofibers. Using quantitative sampling and using experimental data from the experiment, the results have been reviewed, compared and statistically analysed. Conclusions: By decreasing PAN concentration and increasing the engine speed of the rotary jet spinner, the average diameter of the produced nanofibers has decreased and also by increasing TiO2 nanoparticles, the contact angle has decreased and as a result, the hydrophilicity and permeability of the nanofiber membrane has increased. Also, chemical oxygen demand (COD) test showed that decreasing the concentration of PAN polymer and increasing the rotation speed had the greatest effect on the quality and efficiency of nanofiber membranes. By software analysis of laboratory results, the optimal conditions of concentration of 13% by weight of PAN and rotation speed of 5500 rpm, concentration of TiO2 by 5% by weight of PAN polymer and pressure of 2 bars have been determined.
