Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to develop and present a mathematical model for calculating forces and predicting the forward characteristics of a tunnel boat. To advance this goal, two analytical and numerical methods have been used. The analytical method is based on 2.5D theory. But in numerical modeling, Star CCM commercial software has been used. In both methods, a simple wedge is first studied and modeled. The results of both modeling were compared with experimental results provided by Zhao and Faltinsen. Studies show that the results are consistent with Experimental data. Then, in the second stage, there are two main challenges for modeling a tunneled section: 1- A section with a small tunnel 2- A section with a large tunnel With the development of the proposed mathematical model for a simple wedge and the addition of a tunnel to the section, it was found that the results obtained for a tunnel section are very similar to the results of a simple wedge, except that the pressure on this section increases, especially in the tunnel area Finds. By changing the tunnel radius, it was found that the pressure on the section with the larger tunnel is greater. Also, by comparing the results for different deadrise angles, it was observed that with increasing the deadrise angle, the pressure on the cross section decreases.
